Imagine a cartoon villain cackling and twisting his mustache.

You should go to this site, find out what’s going on and sign their petition. The summary is that telecommunications companies (the people you buy internet access from) want to be able to charge websites (like say, google, flickr, personal blogs) to give them preferential bandwith treatment. People who can pay will get their content to your computer very fast. People who can’t will get their content sent very slowly, or possibly not at all.

Not as uncommon as you would expect

Tim Reardon: “Yeah, it seems like a lot of people didn’t like Adolf Hitler.”

Me: “I thought his first two albums were alright.”

Wikipedia is on top of things

A few months ago Zach Dietl and I decided we were going to post fake articles about each other on Wikipedia. This was inspired by the scandal where someone created a false biography for John Siegenthaler, Jr. Apparently those Wikipedia volunteers were on top of things though, and our posts got erased almost instantaneously. Since you can’t find it at Wikipedia, here is the biography of Zach Dietl. (Something you can’t see here is how I had made links to real names from the plumbing industry, etc. like you would find in a real Wikipedia article. I am so awesome.)

Zachary Dietl (January 23, 1963 – ) was an innovative plumber from Prague, Germany, who became known for his excessive coprophilia and stalking.

So I fixed the site. It was actually ridiculous simple once I was armed with the proper knowledge. Something got deleted by someone not me, and then my hosting service claimed it wasn’t their fault. But I fixed it and I don’t think anything’s missing.

What will I be

It’s really discouraging when people ask what you are going to do with your life, and you can tell they think it’s ridiculous, or a waste of time, or a bad career, or whatever. It is also discouraging when you’re not really sure what you’re going to do with your life.

P.S. I’m going to make a website for Eric Heveron-Smith. I think web design / development is something I’d like to get into, but I need more experience before I make major cash money. So this is a good step.

DO YOU CLOSE THE BLINDS? I HOPE NOT…

E-mail Forwards, Wonderful — Abe on May 9, 2006 at 2:08 pm

Here is an e-mail I received from an older relative in January. It’s really opened my eyes, so I thought I would share it with you.

P.S. Sorry I haven’t fixed the broken comments and stuff yet. Tech support told me that I deleted a bunch of files, which isn’t really possible since I haven’t logged into the file manager for a long time. So I have to transfer my data and re-install wordpress or something like that.

DO YOU CLOSE THE BLINDS? I HOPE NOT

From a person who’s there, in the midst….......

The other day, my nine year old son wanted to know why we were at war…My husband looked at our son and then looked at me. My husband and I were in the Army during the Gulf War and we would be honored to serve and defend our Country again today. I knew that my husband would give him a good explanation. My husband thought for a few minutes and then told my son to go stand in our front living room window. He said, “Son, stand there and tell me what you see?”

“I see trees and cars and our neighbor’s houses.” he replied.

“OK, now I want you to pretend that our house and our yard is the United States of America and you are President Bush.”

That, my friends, is the title of some spam I got a couple years ago, and I only deleted it just now. I’ve kept it so long for nostalgic reasons.
