I wonder how he knew what date to set the time machine for?

Thomas was a philosophical type, and he had always been concerned with end of life issues. When he had finally saved up enough money for his time machine, he made a few test flights to make sure he knew how it handled. Then Thomas traveled to the point of his death. Future Thomas didn’t know it was his point of death, but Present Thomas did.

Future Thomas lay in the hospital bed. His quality of life had been severely impaired. The fact of the matter was Future Thomas could no longer move or even speak. To the observer, Future Thomas had no discernible interaction with the world around him. Before getting his time machine, Present Thomas had thought about it long and hard. He took out a euthanasia patch and placed it on Future Thomas’ arm.

It was at this point that Present Thomas was discovered by the police. He was arrested for murder. In jail he thought about it more. Was everything set in stone then?

Eventually, of course, Present Thomas escaped. He went back in time to try and prevent his arrest, or maybe his death. In his old age Present Thomas couldn’t operated a time machine like he used to, and he got in a pretty bad accident. Present Thomas found himself laying in bed with outrageous waking dreams, but was always dreading the moment when darkness would come and Past Thomas claimed him.

I hope she doesn’t find this somehow

In Medical Ethics we’re critiquing each other’s papers. The first girl wrote a paper on personhood. It was interesting because for footnotes she had used her friend’s blog. Here are some near quotes: (I wrote them down a few seconds after they happened so the wording might be wrong)

“So I should try to defend my point instead of just assuming it?”
“So it would be good for me if I defined what I thought personhood was?”

Let me explain something to you

Sometimes when a picture is taken, you’re making a horrible face, and it looks like you’re on drugs or angry or sad or creepy. That’s not you. In fact the picture you’re looking at is of another dimension. The dimensions are all mixed together in time, like frames from a film.

Everything I say is right

What if my posts were just my thoughts on a given subject? That would be consistent with the whole blog project, right? I was thinking the other day that limousines are stupid. (Don’t be jealous, we can’t all think on my level) At first I was thinking that if I was in charge I would outlaw limousines. But I took that thought back, because outlawing something isn’t going to change people’s attitudes, and more importantly, I imagine there might be some cases where the use of a limousine might be appropriate.

I had exactly the same problem when I wanted to say that it ought to be impossible to make money by selling products related to Christianity. This thought was aimed at Christian bookstores and some of the bullshit they sell, but upon closer inspection, it’s dumb. What about people selling Bibles, or scholarly books, or legitimate music? What makes a product legitimate to sell as “Christian” could be argued, but it seems conceivable that there would be such a product somewhere.

Everything I say is false as soon as I turn it into an assertion. Even that statement isn’t accurate. To be completely accurate I feel like I would have to get into details, and details of details. I have to explain the suppositions of my suppositions. What initially seems like solid philosophical ground falls away under my feet. And so the project of modernity fails. All I wanted was to denounce limousines.

P.S. I was being overzealous when I said all the tracks from the gorilla vs bear christmas mix were good. I always skip the waitresses song now when I listen to it.

Appropriate to the season

I just put these songs up at thecapitalistyouth.com. Check them out. It’s a CD called Thanksgiving by The Christmas Singers.

I am paying it forward

Ok, so I get the feeling this might have been floating around the internet for a little bit, but you have to check out Lil’ Markie. Specifically you need to watch this movie and listen to this recording.

I found Lil’ Markie through videos.antville.org, which is a pretty interesting site. People post links to videos.

I came across this site today and I liked it. I particularly liked the holiday mixtape. You should check it out. All good songs.

Life is hard

Doesn’t it seem like folding a post-it note in half (so the sticky part is covered) would be pretty straightforward? It’s not. I try to make a simple bookmark and all I get is heartbreak.

On another note, I’m particularly proud of the most recent Camp Wrath Songbook.

P.S. Just so you don’t think I’m a complete idiot – covering the sticky part up is easy, but once you do that it doesn’t fold flat, and it’s all wrinkly and not a good bookmark.

I’ve been trying to learn CSS

I really enjoy understanding how things work, and I enjoy making them work. The only problem with this is no one enjoys hearing me explain how things work.
